  • Alleghany Community Theatre (ACT) will present two performances of an ACT Readers Theatre production entitled “Marriage: For Better...And Worse” on March 11 at 7 p.m. at the Alleghany Senior Center and March 12 at 7 p.m. at the Alleghany County Public Library. The production consists of two one-act plays entitled “Kentucky Marriage Proposal”?by Anton Chekhov and “Reduced for Quick Sale” by Kent R. Brown.   • Alleghany Quilters Guild will host a reception at 10 a.m. at the Blue Ridge Business Development Center atrium. The Guild will also host a quilting bee on March 15 and March 29 at 3 p.m. at the atrium. A log cabin quilting class will be offered on March 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the atrium.   • Peak Creek Ruritan Club will sponsor a pancake breakfast and indoor yardsale from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Peak Creek Community Center in Laurel Springs. Proceeds will go to benefit the clubs of Alleghany High School and Ashe High School scholarship funds. Menu will include pancakes, sausage, fruit, juice and coffee.     Wednesday, March 10

  • The North Carolina Democratic Party will hold its annual precinct organizing meeting at 7 p.m. at the Country Kitchen in Sparta. The meal will be held at 6 p.m. Meetings are free and open to any registered Democrat residing in the county’s seven precincts. Meeting attendees will be electing delegates to the Alleghany County Convention on April 17 at 10 a.m. at the Blue Ridge Development Center.   • Both committees of the High Country Rural Transportation Planning Organization will meet March 17 at the High Country Council of Governments building located at 468 New Market Blvd. in Boone. The Rural Transportation Coordinating Committee will meet at 10 a.m. and the Rural Transportation Advisory Committee will meet at 2 p.m. Both meetings are open to the public.

  • The Alleghany County Republican Party will meet at the Alleghany Inn to hold its precinct and county convention. The convention will be preceded by a catered dinner at 6 p.m. Cost is $7 per person.
