Peak Creek Ruritan Club will sponsor a pancake breakfast and indoor yardsale from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Peak Creek Community Center in Laurel Springs. Proceeds will go to benefit the clubs of Alleghany High School and Ashe High School scholarship funds. Menu will include pancakes, sausage, fruit, juice and coffee. Cost is $6.50 per plate and will include chili beans, choice of cornbread or crackers, choice of potato salad or cole slaw, dessert and drink. Take out plates will be available. Proceeds will go to the library fund.
Books 'N Friends Used Bookstore will have a semi-annual storewide half-price sale during regular stores hours, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All proceeds will go to benefit the Alleghany County Public Library. A spring fundraiser will be held at the Whitehead Community Center at 6 p.m. Hot dogs will be available at 5 p.m. All proceeds will go to benefit the Alleghany Rescue Squad. The event will also include cake walks, pretty girl contest, ugly man contest, an auction and guess cake. Music will be provided by The Mountain Top Boys. There will be a drawing for a quilt at 9 p.m. The quilt is on display at Kermit's Barber Shop.

Emily Wood will sponsor an Adopt-a-Thon for her senior project at Twin Oaks Animal Shelter from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Participants can donate money, food, stainless steel bowls, blankets, old towels, kitty litter and old newspapers. All proceeds will go to help raise money and supplies for the shelter.
