Commission Chair Richardson will not seek re-election

Alleghany Board of Commissioners Chairman Ken Richardson announced last Tuesday that he will not seek re-election.

Harvest of trees planned

A plan to harvest selected trees at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds was presented to the Board of Commissioners last month and work is slated to begin by early February.

Judge to hear NRSA appeal

Judge Julian Mann III, chief administrative law judge of the N.C. Office of Administrative Hearings in Raleigh, is scheduled to hear a New River Service Authority (NRSA) board appeal concerning Medicaid reimbursements in May.

Firefighters battle blaze at garage

Local volunteer firemen quickly knocked down raging flames at a building housing a beauty salon and a tire store on Main Street last Thursday morning.
