Firefighters battle blaze at garage
Local volunteer firemen quickly knocked down raging flames at a building housing a beauty salon and a tire store on Main Street last Thursday morning. The call came out around 9:20 a.m.
When firemen arrived, flames were erupting out of the service bays of the garage area of John's Tire, said Sparta-Alleghany Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Joseph McGrady. The van in the bay was fully engulfed.
The flames were mostly contained in the service bays, but did travel some 10 to 20 feet each direction.
