A benefit auction held last Saturday at Alleghany High School raised a little over $21,000 for the Hampton family, according to Shirley Richardson of United Country Foxfire Realty. She and Auctioneer Mark Younger of Younger Land and Auction hosted the event and volunteered their services, as well real estate agent Jimmy Phipps, who cooked a barbecue lunch. Two sets of two VIP tickets to a Barrett Jackson Auction were the highest sellers, bringing about $1,500 each. They were procured by Younger from the auction company.
Other items of interest included an Italian cream cake by Nancy Ridgeway that brought $170; an autographed Scotty Pippen jersey that brought $700; an autographed Mavericks championship ball that brought $625; and a Cancun vacation package that brought $1,100. “We were really pleased with the turnout," Younger said, noting that the event coincided with a wrestling tournament at the school. “We had the opportunity to Skype Luke and he was able to be there and see all the people who had gathered to help. The cafeteria at the high school was full," said Younger.
