Sparta man dies in head-on collision Aug. 19 on N.C. 18

A Sparta man was killed in a head-on collision last Thursday, Aug. 19, at 3:48 p.m. on N.C. 18 North about 8.1 miles from Sparta, according to a report filed by Trooper E.W. McConnell of the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Englebert appeals 2003 convictions

Former Wilkes County educator Harry Talmadge Englebert has filed a new appeal of his March 2003 convictions in Alleghany County for sexually abusing mentally diminished boys.
