Alleghany’s real estate market was up in second quarter

Real estate sales in Alleghany County are starting to rebound this year, according to reports from the Alleghany Multiple Listing Service (MLS).

Town nets $25k from state grant

The Town of Sparta was recently approved to receive about $25,000 ($24,999) in Physical Activity in the Built Environment Policy Initiative grant funds.

School Days

BACK TO SCHOOL—Students in Alleghany County had their first day of school last Wednesday, Aug. 4.

Schools fare well in ABCs

The county’s three K-8 schools attained high growth during the 2009-10 school year, according to the Accountability, Basics and Local Control (ABCs) results released Aug. 5 by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (DPI).

Cesare takes over as Sparta Postmaster

After 12 years of serving as the postmaster in Ennice, Ray Cesare applied for and was recently hired to be the postmaster in Sparta.
