Alleghany EMS returns 'home'

Just over a year after losing their home to an electrical fire, the Emergency Medical Service crew is now back home beside the Sparta Fire Department.

Commissioners approve budget with no tax increase

The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners passed their budget Monday night without raising taxes, but not without first facing a packed room of local interests seeking to have all or part of their funding restored.

Several July 4 events planned

Several events are set for the Independence Day weekend, including a rodeo Friday and Saturday, a parade and live music Saturday and several events and tailgate party and fireworks on Sunday.

Dental clinic serves 435

A total of 435 individuals were served Friday and Saturday during a dental clinic at Alleghany High School. Services including root canals, teeth extraction, fillings and cleanings were performed.

July 4 parade grand marshal shares story of his life

Roaring Gap resident Charlie Pugh, joined by two great-granddaughters, will be serving as the grand marshal in the upcoming July 3 parade themed "Red, White and Blue Ridge Celebration."
