County, town net energy grants

The Town of Sparta and Alleghany County received more than $30,000 ($32,920) in grant funds to upgrade lighting in six buildings.

Tax rate unchanged in town

The Sparta Town Council approved a 2 percent increase in the water sewer fees, while the tax rate remains at 28 cents and the garbage service rate also remains at its rate of $6.50. No employee raises are included.

County Manager's proposed budget shows four-cent tax increase

The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners received a proposed budget on June 1 from County Manager Don Adams which included a four-cent tax increase.

Class of 2010, 119 strong, graduates

New priest, "Father Lin,” takes helm at Christ Episcopal

Growing up just outside the nation's capital, the Rev. Richard Lindsley Walton, or "Father Lin” as he prefers to be called, has approached life as an adventure, from his numerous ventures into foreign countries to his newest adventure, serving as priest at Christ Episcopal Church in Sparta.
