New school calendar passes on 3-2 vote

With a narrow 3-2 vote, the 21st Century Calendar passed during a called meeting of the Alleghany County School Board.

Easter services planned

Several events, including church services, religious observances and other community events are planned to recognize Easter, which celebrates the Christian belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Wax Museum

Sparta School students held a ‘Wax Museum' in the school auditorium on March 23.

Board gets first look at budget for schools

The Alleghany Board of Education was presented with a current expense budget proposal during the March 23 called meeting.

Brooks still working at 83

At the age of 83, Sparta resident and self-described "plain old country bumpkin" Gene Brooks credits the Lord as he is able to continue working at Francis Motors, a local car dealership.
