A first-of-its kind study ranked Alleghany's health at 74 of the state's 100 counties.
Jennifer Bryan Greene who serves as a health promotion supervisor with the Appalachian District Health Department, explained the different aspects of the study conducted by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
"The first study is collected through a variety of means, including national surveys and state data that is regularly tracked," explained Greene. "This study just brings together what this research team decided was the most influential on health of people living in a particular county by assigning a weight, or percentage based on how much certain parts of the data influence health outcomes."
