Board votes to end Sparta Teapot Museum

In a surprise announcement on Monday, the Board of Directors of the Sparta Teapot Museum of Craft and Design notified donors, volunteers and others that they had opted to dissolve effective Jan. 31.

Residents evacuated from Pine Ridge

Residents of nine Pine Ridge Apartments in Sparta were vacated from their homes Monday after a retaining wall between the parking area and the building seal collapsed.

Election filing opens Feb. 8

Filing for the upcoming May 2010 election will begin Feb. 8 at the Alleghany Board of Elections office, located on the lower floor of the Alleghany County Administration Building at 348 S. Main St. in Sparta.

County approves Glade School plans

The county commission gave the school board permission Jan. 19 to move forward with facilities plans for Glade Creek School.

Richardson is named Piney Creek's Principal

Ashe County resident Sheila Richardson took the helm of Piney Creek School earlier this month.
