Alleghany likely to get more winter weather this week

For the third week and the second holiday in a row, Alleghany County appears likely to get another round of wintery precipitation.

County will address longevity

On a 4-1 vote, the Alleghany County Board of Commissioners agreed to give an Alleghany County Jail employee compensation for his years of service as he is being promoted to a higher rank.

N.C. leads nation in number of certified teachers

According to information from Gov. Bev Perdue's office, North Carolina leads the nation in national board certification, citing 15,695 teachers had achieved the goal.

WWII vet sought for trip to D.C.

The Alleghany Rotary Club is seeking a World War II veteran from Alleghany County to go on the Flight of Honor in April. The Flight of Honor is a Rotary program that gives veterans the opportunity to view the World War II Memorial, as well as other memorials, in Washington, D.C.
