County moves forward on Glade Creek School funding

The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners, following meetings last Thursday and Monday agreed to move forward with a public hearing and other steps toward acquiring funding for extensive work at Glade Creek School.

The Sparta Town Council election held Tuesday yielded few surprises as 47 people turned out to cast ballots for the three incumbents.

Report card gives county good marks

Schools in Alleghany County faired well in ‘report cards' that were released Oct. 29 by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Literacy program plans event at its new location

The Family Literacy Program is currently located in the Alleghany Center of Wilkes Community College, offering basic skills including reading and math, adult high school, GED and English as a Second Language.
