Despite the rain that persisted throughout much of the day, several entries and a number of spectators lined the streets to watch the Sesquicentennial Parade on Main Street last Saturday.

"I want to thank all the brave souls who in spite of the weather, came out and participated," said Sandy Carter Herndon, Sesquicentennial Steering Committee member. "We were very proud of how it turned out with all things considered." Dignitaries in Saturday's parade included Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton, who rode in a horse and carriage furnished by County Commission Chairman Ken Richardson, 5th District U.S. Congresswoman Virginia Foxx and 90th District N.C. House Rep. Sarah Stevens.

Andrews sisters (85K)

"The Andrews Sisters," who will be among those performing at the upcoming Hillbilly Show Oct. 17, took a wet ride down Main Street during the Sesquicentennial Parade on Saturday in Sparta.
