Schools receive additional $2 million QSCB allocation

Alleghany County Schools received in excess of $2 million in the second round of funds allocated through Qualified School Construction Bond allocations.

County buys option on Glade Creek land for school drain field

Following approval by the Alleghany County Commis-sioners during a brief meeting Sept. 22 that had been recessed from the previous day, County Manager Don Adams signed an option on a tract of land in the Glade Creek District.

Parade goes on despite rain

Despite the rain that persisted throughout much of the day, several entries and a number of spectators lined the streets to watch the Sesquicentennial Parade on Main Street last Saturday.

Sparta School's Principal Barnes discusses summer trip to Belize

Sparta School Principal Chris Barnes was among those selected to participate in a summer venture that took him and 11 North Carolina teachers to Belize—located in South America—for a week of learning about the area's ecology and the like.
