In the Aug. 11 meeting the members of the Alleghany County School Board opted to pursue a more comprehensive plan for Glade Creek School, which would include 29,000 square feet of new or renovated space and cost about $3.5 million ($3,480,000).
Faron Atwood was unable to attend the Aug. 11 meeting.
The proposal was slated to be an issue of discussion when Superintendent Jeff Cox attended the Aug. 17 meeting of the Alleghany County Commission.
The school board had pored over a couple different renderings for Glade. The aforementioned plan, with a higher price tag, would equate to a net increase of 11 classrooms, a new gym and a virtually new cafeteria by way of renovation. The second drawing includes 19,000 square feet of new or renovated space, expanding the existing cafeteria, keeping the gym as is and an additional 11 classrooms comes with a price tag under $2.5 million ($2,280,000).
