Local residents should be on the lookout for fake bills in and around the county.

County gives schools go-ahead

The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners gave the schools system the go-ahead to seek a Qualified School Construction Bond (QSCB) to pay for a $3.5 million school construction project at Glade Creek School.

Man is charged with shooting at sheriff, sentence suspended

An Apex man charged in October 2008 with the attempted murder of Alleghany Sheriff David "Squeak" Edwards was found guilty of discharging a weapon into an occupied property during the August 10-12 session of Alleghany Criminal Superior Court.

Correction

Due to incorrect information appearing in a program for the Sesquicentennial Pageant, the name of Eula Raye Cook was misspelled in the Aug. 5 issue. The newspaper regrets the error.

Upgrades at Glade Creek School to total near $3.5 million

In the Aug. 11 meeting the members of the Alleghany County School Board opted to pursue a more comprehensive plan for Glade Creek School, which would include 29,000 square feet of new or renovated space and cost about $3.5 million ($3,480,000).
