Brinegar Days
Photos by Coby LaRue
Blue Ridge Parkway Interpretive Ranger Anita Scott (above, left) shares a laugh with Brinegar Days visitors Faye Medlin of Statesville and Kathy Lamp of Mount Pleasant. Scott was overseeing the creation of a quilt, being called "Friends at a Crossroads," that is being made entirely by visitors to the Parkway and has been in the works for several years.
In the photo at left, Interpretive Ranger Andrew McKinney shows how to use a flax break to separate flax that can then be spun into yarn for clothing. Demonstra-tions at the Parkway landmark included weaving, spinning wool and flax, methods of preserving food, shape note singing and quilting. A workshop on genealogy was held and descendants of Martin and Caroline Brinegar also attended.
