The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life put a big dent in its fund-raising goal of $51,000, increasing the total for this year to $42,000 for the fight against cancer. The annual event was held last weekend at Woodruff Stadium.
Relay for Life Chair Kristie Hoke said, "So far we are over $42,000 and I still have people turning money into me everyday. We still have quite a few teams that haven't turned in their money yet. We also want to thank our corporate sponsors." Hoke noted that this was the first event in recent years that the weather was not a problem.
