Digital-only TV will begin on June 12
Congress has set this Fiday, June 12, as the final deadline for terminating analog broadcasts. All television signals will be digital from that date forward.
Earlier, the change-over was set for Feb. 17, and some full-power broadcast television stations in the United States already have stopped broadcasting on analog airwaves and began broadcasting only in digital. The remaining stations must broadcast digital only signals as of June 12.
Those who watch over-the-air television signals will be affected by the change. Most older televisions require a special digital converter box to pick up the new signals, which are sent out on the UHF band, rather than the VHF band like analog televisions. Any television antennae that is UHF capable will also work for digital broadcast reception.
