The Alleghany County Homebuilders Association's second-annual Mudsling raised $7,000 for charitable purposes last Saturday. The event, divided into five classes, had about 50 vehicle entries, said Jerrold Davis, spokesperson for the Homebuilders. No official attendance record was kept and children under 11 were let in free.

"We're tickled with it," Davis said of the turnout and participation. "We appreciate all the people who came out and all the kids...We had a good turnout and I think they all had a good time."

Davis said the proceeds from the event will be used to help fund scholarships, purchases for the Angel Tree, tools for students studying building trades at Alleghany High School and other charitable outreaches. Davis said the Homebuilders bought 49 bicycles for the Angel Tree last year.

Davis said the class list was shortened for this year's event, with some classes combined.
