Josephine "Josie" Joines Wilson celebrated her 100th birthday May 29 with a visit from family members at Alleghany Care and Rehab (formerly SunBridge of Alleghany).
In addition, the High Country Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging honored Wilson with a resolution. The resolution noted Wilson is one of nine children born to J. Lundy Joines and Sally Fender Joines. Siblings included Rush, Tam, Dent, Paul, Jettie, Betty, Ruby and Blanche.
The wife of Emerson Wilson served as an elementary school teacher and attended Zion Primitive Baptist and Sparta United Methodist churches.
Information included in the proclamation was Wilson's hobbies, such as gardening, canning and freezing homegrown vegetables and preparing baked goods.
In part, the conclusion of the resolution read, "…Mrs. Josephine Joines Wilson has contributed so much to the lives of family, friends and all with whom she has become acquainted over the span of her 100 years…"
The document was signed by J.B. Lawrence, chairman of the High Country Council of Governments.
