Chief Justice Parker to visit Alleghany
N.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice Sarah E. Parker will be giving the keynote address at the re-dedication of the Alleghany County Courthouse on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Alleghany County Commission Chairman Ken Richardson said the visit also was in conjunction with the county's Sesquicentennial (150th year) Celebration.
Richardson said Judge Richard Doughton helped arrange the visit on a schedule convenient for Judge Parker. A reception will be held at the Alleghany Senior Center from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend both events.
Later that evening, county and town officials, local judges and district attorneys and others will have an by-invation-only evening meal with Judge Parker at Olde Beau Country Club.
Parker, a native of Charlotte, was elected to the top spot on the N.C. Supreme Court in February 2006. She has served on the state's Supreme Court since 1993. Judge Parker received her law degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill School of Law in 1969 and operated a private practice until 1984. She accepted an appointment to the N.C. Court of Appeals in December 1984 and served from 1985 until 1992.
