Numerous Easter services planned
Several events, including church services, religious observances and other community events are planned to recognize Easter, which celebrates the Christian belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Church Services
Editor's Note: The following churches submitted information to The Alleghany News by presstime April 7. The churches are listed in alphabetical order.
Chestnut Grove Baptist Church will hold Easter sunrise services at 6 a.m. with breakfast to follow. Worship services will begin at 10:30 a.m.;
Cornerstone Christian Fellowship will hold a Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m. Those interested are asked to meet at the church. A fellowship breakfast will follow. Worship services will begin at 9 a.m.;
Laurel Springs Baptist Church will have a gathering in the cemetery at 8:30 a.m., followed by breakfast at 8:45 a.m. and a worship service at 10 a.m. There will be no Sunday school;
Little Pine Church of the Brethren will hold an Easter egg hunt in the church yard on Saturday at 2 p.m. for children ages 10 and under;
Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church will hold Easter sunrise services at 6 a.m., with breakfast to follow the services. Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m. and worship services will start at 10 a.m.;
Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Glade Valley will hold Easter sunrise services at 7 a.m., with breakfast to follow. Sunday school will begin at 8:30 a.m., with an Easter egg hunt;
New Covenant Church will hold an Easter sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. Those interested are asked to meet at the church. Breakfast will follow;
Mount Zion Church's Easter services will include a sunrise service at 8 a.m., a fellowship breakfast at 9 a.m. and Sunday school at 10 a.m.;
New Home Freewill Baptist Church in Piney Creek will hold Easter sunrise services at 7 a.m., with breakfast following. Sunday school will be held at 9 a.m. Worship services, featuring the Rev. Neal Hatfield, will begin at 10 a.m.;
New Hope Missionary Baptist Church will have Easter sunrise services at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast at 8 a.m. There will be no Sunday school. Worship services will be held at 10 a.m.;
New River Baptist Church will hold Easter sunrise services at 6:30 a.m. No Sunday school and no 7 p.m. service will be held;
Osborne Memorial Baptist Church will have an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m. followed by breakfast at the Turkey Knob Community Building. There will be no Sunday school. Service and communion will be held at 10 a.m.;
Peak Creek Church of the Brethren in Laurel Springs will present an Easter musical, "The Love of Jesus," on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The musical will also be presented April 18 at 6:30 p.m.;
Peak Creek Presbyterian Church will host Easter services, including a breakfast at 9 a.m., worship at 11 a.m. and an Easter egg hunt at noon at the Peak Creek Community Center;
Saddle Mountain Union Baptist Church will hold Easter sunrise services at 7 a.m. Breakfast will follow at Saddle Mountain Café for a cost of $10. Sunday school will take place at 10 a.m., followed by worship services at 11 a.m.;
Scottville Baptist Church will hold Easter sunrise services at 7 a.m. with Brother Bill Baugess. Breakfast will follow in the fellowship hall. Sunday school will be held at 9:30 a.m. with worship to begin at 10:30 a.m. There will be no evening services; and
Whitehead Union Baptist Church will have Easter sunrise services at 7:15 a.m. The church will also host revival services beginning at 7 p.m. from Easter Sunday through April 15, each with a special singing.
