A Glade Valley house was destroyed March 25 in what Glade Creek Fire Chief David Higgins has deemed "a flue fire gone wrong."

May sentenced to 16-20 years

An Alleghany man was sentenced to a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 20 years, while his mother was also sentenced during the March 23 week of Alleghany Criminal Superior Court.

Planning grant for Glade water is approved

Members of the facilities subcommittee were reminded March 24 that a planning grant has been approved to help with the water and sewer system at Glade Creek School.

Local quilters take part in county "Barn Quilt" project

Members of the Alleghany Quilters Guild—along with friends and volunteers—have opted to take part in a barn quilt project they hope will result in a barn quilt trail throughout the county in honor of Alleghany County's 150th anniversary.

Students honored for their teapot creativity

More than 200 teapots were entered this year in a student teapot competition, which was held by the Sparta Teapot Museum of Craft and Design.
