Members of the Crouse Park committee have expressed an interest in putting an amphitheater in the park to host events during the county's sesquicentennial celebration.
Town Councilman and Crouse Park Committee Chair Mike Parlier shared the information with the Sparta Town Council during the March 3 meeting.
Parlier explained, "Some of the committee members were really interested in putting a theater in the park where we can have music during some of the (150th) events. I think we found a site over there that's going to be suitable there for it."
Distributing a copy of a graphic of Crouse Park and the potential site of the amphitheater, Parlier continued, "You see it on the diagram there, it's kind of between the walking path and new skating area and it's going to require some…ground work..."
Parlier noted that committee members John Spicer and D.W. Miles "seem to think we can get some labor and some material from other contractors around town and the county to help with this thing. They're wanting to jump on it right now before this summer."
Parlier then stated he wanted to have the council okay the proposed site of the potential 58-foot-by-20-foot amphitheater.
Councilman John Brady then queried why the committee felt the proposed site was a good site.
Parlier responded, "We looked at several different sites…this seemed to be the best place."
