The Alleghany Board of Commissioners agreed last Thursday night to pare down the Planning Board from nine members to five.
A celebration of the works of Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel was held at Glade Creek School Monday.
After reading information provided by representatives of the calendar committee regarding the pros and cons to early and late starts, four of the school board members opted to go with the early start date of Aug. 6.

Members of the Crouse Park committee have expressed an interest in putting an amphitheater in the park to host events during the county's sesquicentennial celebration.
In October 1944, the Sparta branch of the Lions Club was organized with 16 members, giving men in the community an opportunity to serve their fellow man through a variety of activities and efforts.
