Auction enjoys big opening week

The 42nd-annual Alleghany Heart Fund Auction is off to a record start in its first week, having raised almost $8,500.

Alleghany's dropout rate increases

A total of 21 students dropped out of Alleghany County Schools during the 2007-08 school year, according to information recently released by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Stimulus package headed to schools

Alleghany County Schools could receive $612,000 under the recently passed federal stimulus package legislation that was signed last week by President Barack Obama.

Harold Church has served 46 years at funeral home

With 46 years of serving the community at Grandview Memorial Funeral Home under his belt this year, Alleghany native Harold Church has no intention of leaving his place of employment any time soon.
