Items are still being sought to auction during the 42nd Annual WCOK (1060 AM) Heart Fund Auction, which will be held on Feb. 21 and Feb. 28 this year.

Some of the items being auctioned are on display in the front windows of Seasons Gifts and Home Decor (in the former Smithey's building) on South Main Street in Sparta. The items were placed on display last Friday by a group of volunteers.

Some of the more interesting items donated thus far include a handmade solid cedar blanket chest and a pine entertainment center with a walnut finish by Tom Atwood, a wormy chestnut pie safe with copper tins and a star design by John Wayne Edwards, gift certificates from Triple E Riding Stables for a one hour trail ride for four people, numerous pies, cakes and canned food items, a queen-sized quilt by Delta Peterson and a Yamaha Acoustic Guitar that was autographed and donated by Kevin Sharp. More auction items are needed and items may be donated by contacting Virginia Setzer at 372-8495.

"We have several items right now, but it's too early to tell how donations will be," Setzer said Tuesday. However, she said she is pleased with what has come in so far. "We're just proud of all we have—you just have to say that Alleghany people support the Heart Auction," she added.

Setzer noted that every dollar raised during the auction goes directly to the American Heart Association. The Association funds research and public education.
