Newspaper Web site wins award
The North Carolina Press Association has announced that the staff of The Alleghany News are the winners of a press award in Community Division B of the 2007 NCPA Best Editorial Contest.
The newspaper's staff captured second place statewide for its Web site, which may be viewed on the Internet at www.alleghanynews.com, in the category "General Excellence for Newspaper Web Sites."
Coby LaRue, The Alleghany News editor, will be receiving the award on behalf of the newspaper tomorrow in Cary at the statewide press awards banquet. While LaRue posts updates to the site from the week's front page news and photographs, Web design is done by a local freelance web editor. Work is also done for the site by several other members of the staff, including General Manager Ron Brown, Graphic Artist Candice Groce and Debbie Galyen, who handles page composition for the paper.
"It truly is a staff effort to help keep our Web site up and up to date," said LaRue. "Recent upgrades to the site, including a face-lift, no doubt played a prominent role in helping the newspaper earn this honor."
Currently, the newspaper's readers may find front page news and photos, Reality Check columns, contact and advertising information, community links and staff e-mail addresses on the site.
