Water authority update is given

After hitting what Sparta Town Manager Bryan Edwards deemed a "stone wall" in terms of progress for the Virginia/Carolina Water Authority at one point in 2008, the progress seems to be picking back up, according to information he reported at the Feb. 3 Town of Sparta meeting.

Discussing the search for an intake site Edwards stated, "Just to go back and catch you up a little bit, we hit a period of time there from about last April, May when we were trying to identify an intake site. We really almost hit a stone wall in terms of moving forward. We checked about six or seven locations trying to find a suitable intake site. Based on the riverbank filtration technology that this water plant's going to be using, it will not be a conventional water intake with a physical structure in the river.
