Schools in Alleghany County faired well, according to information found in report cards that were released Jan. 29 by the Department of Public Instruction.
The report cards, released annually since 2001, serve as a means to highlight strengths and weaknesses for schools throughout the state.
The report cards offer four different categories, including a school profile, high student performance, safe, orderly and caring schools, and quality teachers. A complete report can be found through links online at www.ncreportcards.org.
Superintendent Jeff Cox made note of the recently raised standards in reading and remarked, "Overall, we're pleased with the progress our schools are making. I believe the state report card of each school supports our belief that we are making substantial progress. We always are looking for areas we can improve."
He offered thanks to the staffs of Alleghany County Schools, as well as its students and parents.
"It takes all of us working together to get good results in our schools," he said.
