The Alleghany County Transfer Facility will return to normal operations as of this Friday, said County Manager Don Adams.
The facility's operation procedures were changed as of Dec. 1, 2008 after Alleghany County Commissioners agreed in November to a schedule for the replacement of the county's damaged scales. The old scales were no longer working properly and Adams reported earlier that they could have collapsed under the weight loads that are typically placed on them if they were not replaced due to rust in the metal support system.
The change involved re-routing most residential traffic through a second set of gates near the tipping floor.
The commercial accounts, such as contractors, have been using the original entrance since they are required to pay for their loads by the ton.
The temporary scales, which have been located on the left side of the scale house when entering through the first gate, are scheduled to be removed today, Thursday, said Adams.
The scales were due to be removed on Wednesday (Jan. 28), but a truck that was scheduled to haul them away was stuck in a snowstorm in West Virginia as of Tuesday, Adams said.
The new scales were put into operation last Friday, said Adams.
