Newspaper to change to Wednesdays

After approval from the publishers, The Alleghany News will be changing its publication date from Thursday to Wednesday beginning with the Feb. 4, 2009 issue.

According to General Manager Ron Brown, this will synchronize the actual day the paper is printed and distributed instead of publishing the local in-home date of Thursday, as is presently the case. The newspaper will also be making some minor modifications in advertising deadlines to accommodate this change. The new deadlines may be found in the classified section on Page 13 of this week's edition.

The goal is to implement 100 percent electronic paste-up of pages, also known as pagination, so they can be transmitted more efficiently to the presses at our sister paper, The Journal Patriot, in North Wilkesboro. Hopefully this will allow a faster turn around time for printing, delivering and mailing the newspaper on Wednesdays. The weekly edition will still arrive locally in homes on Thursdays and be available at area news racks and vendors on Wednesday.
