Shawtown wreck claims life

A Glade Valley man was fatally injured in a single-vehicle accident on Shawtown Road in the early morning hours of Jan. 10. Killed was James Samuel Young, age 27, the driver of a 1986 Ford pickup.

Also listed as injured in the wreck that took place about 7.5 miles south of Sparta were Debbie Lynn Pasley and Perry Wayne LaRue. Although Pasley was listed on the report as having been transported via AirCare helicopter to Wake Forest University Medical Center, a hospital spokesperson said on Tuesday that she was no longer a patient there. No information on LaRue was available.

According to the report filed by Trooper J.G. Hatcher, the Ford was traveling north on Shawtown Road when it ran off the right shoulder of the roadway and the driver lost control. The vehicle slid across the road and overturned through a fence. The driver was ejected and came to rest in a private driveway. The vehicle came to rest on its side in a pasture. Damage to the vehicle, registered to Pasley, was estimated at $2,000. Damage to the fence, the property of Ruth Bryant, was estimated at $500.

As of Tuesday, no funeral arrangements for Young were available for publication.
