Water Authority releases more details on New River plant

INDEPENDENCE, Va.—The Virginia/Carolina Water Authority Board met last Thursday, Jan. 8, to formally release information about the new location of its plant on New River.

Local man escapes from Wilkes prison

Authorities are still searching for a man who escaped Sunday morning from the Wilkes Correctional Center, a state minimum security prison on N.C. 115 in North Wilkesboro.

Shawtown wreck claims life

A Glade Valley man was fatally injured in a single-vehicle accident on Shawtown Road in the early morning hours of Jan. 10.

School board turns attention to Glade

Corrections

Due to an error, a story in last week's edition said that Jesse Arnold Crouse died at the scene of an accident on New Year's Eve on Glade Valley Road. Mr. Crouse actually was pronounced dead after a Medcenter helicopter flight to Wake Forest University Medical Center, according to information from Alleghany Emergency Medical Services.

Due to an error, it was reported that a Virginia man lost on the Blue Ridge Parkway was found Sunday morning, Jan. 4. However, according to Investigating Ranger Colin Fisher, 58-year-old Mark Maull went missing Saturday, Jan. 3, it wasn't determined he was missing until Sunday and he was found Monday. The newspaper regrets the errors.
