At the age of 5, Taylor Edwards could be found dancing around Glade Creek School classrooms. Today, at 16, she can be found on stage performing for live audiences in the region.
Most recently, Edwards took a second run at portraying “Clara” in Virginia and North Carolina performances of “The Nutcracker.”
The junior at Alleghany High School is the younger daughter of Eddie and Joye Edwards. She has two older siblings, Tina Vaughn, editor of The Declaration, and Andy Edwards, a former AHS football and baseball standout, Edwards said.
Edwards stated after being “caught” by “Miss Denise” Kimrey dancing around the local school, a letter was sent home to her mother, asking if the youngster could take dance lessons. Edwards commented while she found the tap and jazz lessons to be “fun,” she found herself drawn more and more to ballet.
When Taylor was 13, The Conservatory of Dance and Theater in Galax, Va. opened and being welcomed to the Conservatory by ballet teacher/artistic director Barbara Johnson, Taylor found herself taking lessons in both Sparta and Galax.
