Job losses mount in the region

The Western North Carolina region has lost about 12,000 jobs since January with 2,700 of those losses occurring in October.

Town may close Charles Street

A public hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 6, 2009 to address questions and concerns about the closure of Charles Street to through-traffic.

Del Reeves signs are requested for Sparta

A request to have four signs in town to recognize the late Del Reeves, who was a member of the Grand Ole Opry for more than 40 years, will be taken to the planning board.

Tree growers pleased with season

This past weekend marked the county's annual Choose and Cut event, giving individuals the opportunity to select the "perfect tree" and find a variety of items available at craft fairs, held in Sparta and Glade Valley.
