Town of Sparta council members accepted a bid from a Jefferson company to construct a sewer line along U.S. 21 from Pine Swamp Road to Truline Truss, during the Nov. 4 meeting of the council.
Town Manager Bryan Edwards stated that six bids were made for the project, with an $880,688 bid from Carolina Grading and Utilities being the low bid. The same company did a project on Napco Road, he noted.
Other bids for the project were from Hillsville, Va. company DLB, Inc. ($1,051,909), Bethania company Ramey, Inc. ($1,168,993), Mocksville-based Fuller Contracting Co., LLC ($1,213,086), Midland company Osborne Utility Construction LLC ($1,575,482.50) and Arden-based DPI Construction, Inc. ($1,716,971.52).
Of the Jefferson-based company, Edwards remarked, "The bid bonds and other documents have been satisfactorily submitted or in the process of doing that. It would be the recommendation of our engineer and myself that we accept that bid upon clearance of all the documents that we need."
Edwards added that a pre-construction conference was held Oct. 27 with a contractor with Carolina Grading
