Events are scheduled to honor local veterans

By LAURA THORNBURG
Staff

With Veterans Day approaching, services have been scheduled to honor those who have fought for our country.

According to Post Commander Thomas Ham, who leads Bruce Wayne Osborne Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post No. 7034 here in Alleghany, each of the scheduled events are open to the public.

Tomorrow (Friday), Alleghany High School students will honor veterans with a ceremony that begins at 9 a.m. in the school gym. The program will include students reading speeches and performing songs, as well as recognition of the veterans.

Students at Glade Creek School will honor veterans on Friday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. in a similar ceremony. The program will include a slide show presentation, singing and student speeches. Teacher Chris Brady stated a presentation will be given by the VFW as well as they present colors and explain the meaning of the folds of the flag.
