Heavy Frosts and Signs of Fall

SIGNS OF FALL—A heavy frost coated the grass and trees along the edges of of stream banks last Thursday morning in southern Alleghany County. Wildlife has begun to move around more often as the temperatures drop. This large 10-point buck (above) appears to be on the lookout at the edge of a creek bed near the tree line.

In the photo at left, Big Pine Creek winds its way along through the trees on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The leaf viewing season remains active in many areas of the county and beautiful fall foliage is on display all along the Blue Ridge Parkway and on many other roads across the county.
