County, town discuss water

During Monday night's joint meeting of the Sparta Town Council and the Alleghany County Commission, one of the topics of discussion was the Virginia-Carolina Water Authority.

Five county 'Hotline' is now on hold

Efforts to start a crisis 'hotline' for residents in a five-county area have been stalled by a lack of funding, said organizer Sherry Cahn of Sparta.

Mother, son found safe here

Local authorities searched through the night Monday and Tuesday and into Wednesday before locating a missing 7-year-old child and his mother last seen in the Whitehead Community.

Lintons discuss missionary work

In 1990, Floridians Dave and Pattie Linton, who had lived in Alleghany on a seasonal basis since the early '70s were able to stay in the area for more months each year following their retirements as teachers.

Festival is a success in spite of early rain

Despite rain last Friday and Saturday morning that threatened to close down the event, the Mountain Heritage Festival was deemed a success by organizers.
