Defib units sought by county

The Alleghany County Board of Commissioners learned of a number of capital needs the county has that could be addressed through a loan.

Update given on two road projects

U.S. 21 and the Sparta Parkway remain basically on schedule under the latest version of the Transportation Improvement Plan that was recently released by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Work on Piney Creek gym roof is set to begin in October

Work on the roof of the Piney Creek Gym, a project funded through Qualified Zone Academy Bond (QZAB) funds, is expected to begin around the first of October, according to Project Manager Dan Pardue.

Council discusses road plan

The Department of Transportation's Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) appears to be losing ground in terms of Sparta projects, Town Manager Bryan Edwards reported to the council on Sept. 2.

The Sparta Teapot Museum of Craft and Design opened a new exhibit at the Preview Gallery on Main Street in Sparta Saturday.

Wellness Center touts trio of area success stories

When Alleghany Wellness Center opened its doors to the public four and a half years ago, supporters of the facility merely wanted a site for the people of Alleghany and the surrounding area to gather to improve their quality of life, said AWCI Program Director Linda Kabat.
