Numerous weekend events set
A number of events are on tap this weekend, from a go-kart race at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds to an open house and ribbon cutting at the Solid Rock Food Closet.
Go-Kart Race
A go-kart race, sponsored by Country Side Construction, will be held at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds beginning at 5 p.m., Saturday. Admission is $5 for adults, with children 8 and under being admitted free-of-charge.
The proceeds of the event will benefit the Sparta-Alleghany Volunteer Fire Department. Neither alcoholic beverages nor use of profanity will be allowed.
According to Sparta-Alleghany Fire Chief Terry McGrady, it has been more than 15 years since there has been a go-kart race held at the fairgrounds. He is expecting 40 to 50 karts to take part in the race.
"It will enjoyable for everybody to come and watch," said McGrady. "Come out and support the local fire department."
