May faces additional charges

An Alleghany man who already was facing statutory rape charges, now faces a charge of solicitation to commit murder, according to the District Attorney's Office.

The Alleghany County Fair will wrap up this weekend culminating Saturday night with the Alleghany Mower Racing Association (AMRA) CarQuest Mowdown.

Alleghany has new centenarian

Alleghany resident Thelma Edwards recently joined the ranks of the county's centenarians, turning 100 years old on July 27.

Diving In

Students across the county started back to school on Aug. 6 and the Alleghany High School football team wasted no time "diving in" to work with their new coach, Adolph Shepardson.
