A contract to operate the North Carolina License Plate Agency has been awarded to a Sparta-based business.

Food Closet nets $100k Duke grant

The Solid Rock Food Closet netted a $100,000 grant to help fund operations, the Duke Endowment announced last week.

Schools approve gym bid

Subject to Project Manager Dan Pardue's review and approval, the Alleghany County Board of Education approved a $549,000 contract price between the school system and Blue Ridge Enterprises for the Piney Creek Gym renovations.

Fiddlers Convention winners heralded

The Alleghany County Fiddlers Convention hosted 36 bands and 210 individual contestants on Friday and Saturday, July 18 and 19 in Sparta.
