County will collect town property tax

By LAURA THORNBURG
Staff

After an inter-local agreement between the Town of Sparta and Alleghany County becomes final, citizens will be given the opportunity to pay all of their local taxes at a single location.

The matter was discussed among town council members during their June 3 meeting.

Town Manager Bryan Edwards explained, "We've been working closely with the tax office and the county manager to move this project along. It's my belief at this time that at the June 16 meeting, the county commissioners will take a resolution charging the county tax collector to collect Town of Sparta municipal taxes along with the county taxes."
