County manager releases proposed '08-'09 budget

Sparta town residents may be paying a 28 cent tax rate per $100 of valuation for the upcoming year, as opposed to the 27 cents that had been proposed during the council's May meeting.

Nilo named Teacher of the Year

Susan Nilo, a media specialist at Glade Creek School was recently named the teacher of the year for Alleghany County Schools.

Free dental clinic serves 263 people

More than 250 individuals (263) received free-of-charge dental care during a two-day dental clinic held at Alleghany High School June 6 and 7.
