Special events are planned for month-long June Jamboree
The 50th annual June Jamboree kicked off last weekend with a distribution of free watermelon, a flea market and merchants' sidewalk sales at Trojan Village. In addition, the annual Fourth of July parade along Main Street is scheduled for July 5 at 2 p.m.
According to a June Jamboree event calendar, the events are subject to change. For more information about any particular event, call the event sponsor of the Chamber at 372-5473.
Ongoing Events
Each Friday evening through June 27, free watermelon will be available in the Trojan Village Shopping Center from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. On June 6, 20 and 27, the Alleghany County Library will host back-to-back movies beginning at 6 p.m. Popcorn, drinks and snacks will be available for purchase at each event.
Each Saturday, a flea market will be held at Trojan Bowl, while a sidewalk sale will be held by merchants in the Trojan Village Shopping Center.
On June 15, 22 and 29, gospel music will be performed in Trojan Village from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., featuring Marvin and Betty Shaw and invited groups.
Each Monday, the Crouse House Pickers will host Music in the Park beginning at 6 p.m.
This Weekend
On Friday, beginning at 6 p.m., the Alleghany County Library will host back-to-back movies. The 6 p.m. childrens' show will feature "Little Bear," while the 8 p.m. teen movie, "Flicka," will feature Tim McGraw and Alison Lohman. For more information, contact the library at 372-5573.
On Saturday, the Mountain Top Cruisers will have cars on display in the parking lot of Farmers Hardware beginning at 4 p.m. The day's festivities will conclude with a J.D. Higgins street dance in Trojan Village. The street dance is scheduled to be held from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m.
On Sunday, a family fun day will be held in Trojan Village from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. The event will include a bounce house and hay rides, as well as music and cloggers.
Upcoming Events
On June 13, the county's annual Relay for Life event is scheduled to take place in Woodruff Stadium beginning at 6:30 p.m. and concluding at 9 a.m. on June 14. The financial goal for this year's Relay, themed "Pickin' and Grinning for a Cure" is $50,000. Also on tap for the week of June 9 through 14 are a Shriners duck race at Una's River Bottom at noon and a street dance in Trojan Village from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. featuring Uncle Nave & Cranberry Creek and Monica Santos.
