An Ennice man died in a single-vehicle accident last Saturday, May 3 at 9:15 p.m., according to a report by Trooper C.J. Blankenship of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Dead at the scene was Larry "Brian" Perry, age 34, of Debord Lane.
According to the report, Perry was the driver of a 1998 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle on Rich Hill Road, about .6 mile from Glade Valley Road and about 6.3 miles from Sparta.
A passenger in the vehicle, 33-year-old Michael Wayne Lafferty II of Sparta, was also listed as injured in the accident. Lafferty was treated and released at Alleghany Memorial Hospital after the accident, a hospital spokesperson said.
According to the report, Perry was driving east on Rich Hill Road when he entered a curve and lost control of his vehicle.
The vehicle then traveled off the right side of the road, spun around and overturned onto its top. The Chevrolet was upside down when it struck a tree on the driver's side and then came to rest.
The vehicle caught fire after the accident, but the victim was apparently already deceased and did not appear to be affected by the flames. The blaze, mostly involving the front-end of the vehicle, was quickly extinguished, according to reports from the scene.
